New Dog

Recently we visited the SPCA and became the proud parents of Max.  He is a 1 year old Staffie Mix, and needless to say it has been hell trying to train him.  Don't get me wrong he is freaking sweet!  He is always happy, jumping around, and playing.  We knew that it would be tough, especially considering this is a second pet and he's still a puppy.

We have been working on crate training him.  First, we brought a plastic kennel.  He has become a magician twice in that kennel.  The first time he got out he managed to chew up tennis shoes, ear buds, and left a ton of drool on my couch.  The second time was even worse.  He chewed a hole in the side of the kennel, I have never seen anything like this.  He then proceeded to chew up the cord to my Bose system, an Xbox Controller, and paper.

It's kind of like having a new baby in the house, but this baby is becoming very expensive.  We have tried chew toys like the Kong and bones but he grows tired of them very quickly.  We have tried walking him to help him lose some of that energy but it does't work.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep him from chewing?
